Hello From Uganda

We've arrived and finally managed to get an internet connection for all you impatient people out there who have been demanding information.
We have been made to feel really welcome. We arrived at Entebbe airport to a small welcome party with a banner. We were then driven to our new home to meet the boys who had walked about 1 mile to greet us with singing, clapping and another banner!

Since then we have really enjoyed getting to know the boys who are taking great delight in teaching us Lugandan words and showing us around Tudabujja.

The staff have been brilliant. We have been taken to a football match by Alfred, the sports coach, Uganda Vs Lesotho in the African Cup qualifiers followed by a wedding reception (dressed to go to a football match!). It was George's birthday on Sunday- he is the teacher at Tudabujja- so he and his family took us to a fish restaurant on the lake shore to celebrate (Jen ate fish and has now also eaten beef when he invited us to his home earlier this week, bring on the bacon sandwiches!!)

In terms of work we are easing in gently. It is the time of year to prepare the budgets for next year and so it is a great time for us to see how the charity works. We are very excited about the project that we are now a part of. This week has already seen two boys leave us for resettlement with families, so next week we should be receiving two more.

Thank you to the people who have e-mailed and text us. Sorry if we can't reply personally to all the e-mails at the moment but we are hoping to work out a way of connecting to the internet more frequently.

We are feeling great, it is good to be here at last. Although we are of course missing friends and family. Our health is good so far and we are looking forward to the challenges which lie ahead of us.

Lots of love,
Nathan and Jen

For those who are praying for us, please pray...
  • that we will quickly pick up the language so we can build relationships with the boys.
  • for George who is also working very hard covering the farm manager's job.
